How do I install the Lytro Desktop software?

IMPORTANT:

  • New camera owner?
  • Existing camera owner?
  • Already plugged in your camera, having issues, or just confused about how to proceed?
    • Please follow the detailed steps below:


Detailed Windows instructions:

  • A) If you see a message indicating that Windows is not supported, that just means you bought your camera before we released Lytro Desktop for Windows.  Windows is supported for any camera we have ever sold, as follows:
    1. If you see this message, disconnect your camera from your computer, manually download Lytro Desktop, complete the installation, and then re-connect your camera.
      • If having issues, please reboot your computer, then download Lytro Desktop one more time, and re-install Lytro Desktop.
    2. You can now import your pictures from your Lytro camera to your Windows computer.
    3. If still having issues, please contact us using the blue "Open a Support Ticket" link below the end of this article.
  • B) In most cases, if you connect your camera before installing Lytro Desktop, you will just be automatically prompted to download Lytro Desktop.
    1. Follow the installation prompts.
      • If you have any issues, please disconnect your camera from your computer, reboot your computer, launch Lytro Desktop, and then re-connect your camera.
      • If still having issues, please reboot your computer, then download Lytro Desktop one more time, and re-install Lytro Desktop.
    2. You can now import your pictures from your Lytro camera to your Windows computer.
    3. If still having issues, please contact us using the blue "Open a Support Ticket" link below the end of this article.

 

Detailed Mac instructions:

  • A) If you are prompted to install Lytro Desktop directly from the camera, that just means you bought your camera early on.  You are not required to install from your camera, and an update will be required in most cases afterward. However, to do so:
    1. Follow the on-screen installation prompts.
      • If you don't see the Lytro Desktop installer, please switch to the Finder application within OS X.  This will reveal any hidden windows.
      • NOTE: Permissions change possibly required for Mac OS X 10.8 ("Mountain Lion").
    2. Disconnect your camera, then re-connect your camera.  You can now import your pictures from your Lytro camera to your Mac computer.
      • If you have any issues, please reboot your computer, then manually download Lytro Desktop, and re-install Lytro Desktop.
    3. If still having issues, please contact us using the blue "Open a Support Ticket" link below the end of this article.
  • B) If you connect your camera before installing Lytro Desktop and your camera has later firmware, then you will be automatically prompted to download Lytro Desktop
    1. Follow the on-screen installation prompts.
      • If you don't see the Lytro Desktop installer after downloading, please switch to the Finder application within OS X.  This will reveal any hidden windows.
      • NOTE: Permissions change possibly required for Mac OS X 10.8 ("Mountain Lion").
    2. After installing the Lytro Desktop software, disconnect and reconnect the USB cable, and you will then be ready to import your pictures from your Lytro camera to your Mac computer.
