It would be spiffy to have a button on living pictures that, when clicked, would automatically "play through" the image sequentially starting with close focus and ending with the furthest point in focus. It would be a sort of "focus zoom," if you will. Or, you could provide a slider at the bottom of the living picture, which would allow the viewer to essentially scroll through the entire range of focus.
The human eye does this sort of thing all the time naturally, and you sometimes see a similar cinematic or videographic effect, but this would be much more direct and interactive.

This is a very very good idea. I read about this in Ng's thesis and the thought of it was very exciting to me.
Once these images become slightly higher MP and can be shown on a high resolution display like the new iPad, we could have dedicated Lytro app that uses the front facing camera to determine where our eyes are looking and bring that part of the photo into focus. That would be pure magic.
Export as animated .gif please? :D
