Is there a better way to backup the database?

I have found some document about it, but it referred to Lytro.lytrolib as if it were a file - I see it's a directory... Also I seem to remember that while Lytro Desktop 1.0.1 "Readme" popped out before the install, one of the lines mentioned an "ability to backup the database".

I just ran a "backup" from command line (better comfort level for me) - I think it will work - but if I can backup just "part" of it, or there's more detail on restoring - as in what specific files, please let me know.

Keep in mind this test was on my VM, I will also use same method on my friend's Mac at work..  although I consider that one at "less risk" of corruption.

Anyhow, here's what I ran:

cd "wherever u

MADE SURE LYTRO APP WAS NOT ACTIVE

want to put your backup tar.gz file"

tar -cvzf GT_LytroBackup-20120421.taz /Users/username/Pictures/Lytro.lytrolib

Any comments?

the -z in tar did nothing; so it's not worth spending CPU cycles on gzip, just got for a straight tar ( -cvf )

Hi Greg,

Thanks for checking in.

The topics you're touching on are mostly things that we're not ready to support for customers right now, as we cannot guarantee the elements in question will not change with future Lytro Desktop releases. The furthest we will go-- and even here we advise caution-- is what's already written up on backups here:

http://support.lytro.com/entries/21103573-how-do-i-back-up-my-livin...

FYI: Lytro Desktop 1.0.1 has a somewhat increased ability to recover from any corruption of Lytro Library data, but there are no new user-facing features around backups-- nothing that goes beyond what's already in the Knowledgebase (KB) entry I've linked above.

Please do, however, feel free to post over in our Feature Request forums that you'd like more visibility and control over Lytro Library management:
