DT, the 11M you saw are not Megapixels but ** Megarays,** and the 1080x1080 resolution of any particular 2D slice you choose to focus on and save as .jpg will not be changing, it's a hardware limit associated with the current camera configuration.
As far as comparing Lytro's resolution with a traditional 2D camera, ** you really can't**.
I don't want to have to carry two cameras to be able to send high resolution pictures to friends or use them on my business website
The Lytro camera is not intended or designed to replace your DSLR or point and shoot (see "** Is the Lytro camera right for me**" KB). It's a showcase for a new technology (lightfield) that will revolutionize cameras as we know them today and will enable you to compose and take shots you cannot take with any traditional 2D camera; it will also challenge you to compose differently, as a good light field shot is just not possible with a traditional camera.
We know our first product is not right for everyone, but thanks for considering us!
