How can I share living pictures?

We recommend the following methods for sharing Lytro living pictures:

  • Optimizing for quality
    • In Lytro Desktop, select and export the pictures you want in XRAW (ILLUM only) or Lytro RAW (First Generation or ILLUM).  Be aware XRAW living pictures are very large (~110MB each for Lytro Illum)
      • If XRAW is not an available option, you are either using a First Generation camera and it's not supported, or your using desktop with an ILLUM you havn't paired yet.  You'll have to find the camera it was taken with and pair the data with your desktop.
      • You can then compress the files if you wish, but we generally only see about 10% compression rates
    • Find a hosting service such as Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, WeTransfer, etc and upload pictures there
    • Email the hosted file link to whomever you want to share with, along with a download link to Lytro's Desktop Software (https://illum.lytro.com/desktop)
    • Import the downloaded pictures via File > Import from Folder...
  • Optimizing for size
    • In Lytro Desktop, select and export the pictures you want as "Editable Living Picture".
      • Editable living pictures are very large BUT...
      • These files compress well, often over 50% compression.  Use your favorite file compression program
    • Find a hosting service such as Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, WeTransfer, etc and upload compressed pictures there
