Are blurry pictures ever possible with the Lytro camera?

In a word, yes.  Light field technology does not solve for motion blur.  Neither of the following kinds of blur can be refocused:

  • Camera motion blur - The camera moved as you took the picture.  Like any camera, the Lytro camera should be held steady to capture light effectively.
  • Subject motion blur - Your subject moved as you took the picture.   Here is an example of a living picture with a subject in motion, a skateboarder in mid-jump

NOTE: A related topic some people may also find is useful is shooting with the Lytro camera in low-light conditions.
